NYC candle company

Every company has an origin story. Ours begins, as many New York stories do, with a search. It was not a search for fame or fortune. It was a search for a simple, perfect object: a candle.

We loved what a candle could do for a space. How it could change the mood, soften the edges of a room, and signal the end of a long day. But we were frustrated. We were tired of the choice between cheap, mass market candles that gave us [headaches] and legacy brands that, while beautiful, still used [outdated paraffin wax].

We wanted something that was both thoughtfully designed and genuinely clean. Something that felt modern, witty, and reflected our life in the city.

We wanted a candle that did not exist. So, in our small Queens apartment, surrounded by the creative energy of the world's borough, we decided to make it ourselves. That is how Mbur Candle Co. was born.

 

Our Non-Negotiables: A Commitment to Clean

 

From the very first test batch, we had a set of non negotiable rules. The first and most important was an unwavering commitment to health and purity.

  • The Wax: We knew we had to use [100% pure beeswax]. We chose it for its clean, non toxic burn, its incredible air purifying properties, and its beautiful, natural light. It was simply the best, so it was the only option.

  • The Fragrance: Our scents had to be sophisticated and memorable, but absolutely phthalate-free. We wanted to create complex fragrances that were safe to breathe in every single day.

The NYC Aesthetic: Modern and Mindful Design

 

A candle in New York is part of your decor. It has to look the part.

  • The Vessel: We searched for months for the perfect vessel. It had to be minimalist, with clean lines to fit any style. It needed to be extra-thick and heavy, to feel substantial and safe in your hands.

  • The Personality: We also wanted our candles to have a personality that felt like our city: smart, a little bit witty, and not afraid to be different. This is where our fun, evocative names like "People Watching" and "Out of Office" came from. They are conversation starters.

 

The Final Piece: A Multi-Sensory Experience

 

Finally, we wanted our candles to do more than just look and smell good. We wanted them to create a complete experience.

That is what led us to [all natural wooden wicks]. The first time we lit one and heard that gentle, soothing crackle, we knew we had found the final piece of the puzzle. It brought the candle to life, turning it from a static object into a multi sensory ritual of light, scent, and sound. It was our "aha" moment.

 

Our Story is Our Promise

 

Mbur Candle Co. was born out of a simple desire for a better candle. One that was cleaner, more beautiful, and more thoughtful. One that was worthy of being a centerpiece in the homes of the most discerning people we know: our fellow New Yorkers.

Every candle we pour in our Queens studio is a continuation of that original promise. It is a product made with passion, born from a simple search for something better.
