Burning any candle better, whatever the wax is

Trim the wick before every single burn. Cotton wicks want about a quarter inch. Wooden wicks want the charred edge snapped off with your fingers or a trimmer. A long wick makes a tall flame, and a tall flame is what smokes.
Keep sessions to three or four hours, then let the candle cool completely. Past four hours the melt pool gets hotter than the candle was designed for, which can stress the glass and push the wick toward mushrooming.
Let the first burn run long enough to melt the wax out to the edge of the vessel. That sets the memory ring and prevents tunneling for the rest of the candle's life. Burn in a room with some air movement, and keep the flame away from curtains and drafts.
But my candle only tunnels in the middle
