Where paraffin actually comes from

Follow it backward. Crude oil goes into a refinery and gets separated into fuels and lubricating oils. One of the leftover fractions is a waxy sludge called slack wax. That slack wax gets de-oiled, filtered, and bleached until it turns into the hard white blocks sold as candle wax.

So paraffin is a refined leftover from petroleum processing. That is the actual supply chain, and it is worth knowing before you decide what you want burning in a closed bedroom for four hours.

Burn any candle better, starting tonight

Trim the wick to about an eighth of an inch before every single light. An untrimmed wick pulls too much fuel, which is what produces smoke and a tall flickering flame.
